Mason BOV Approves Creation of New Policy, Government and International Affairs School

The George Mason University Board of Visitors today approved the creation of one of the largest policy schools in the U.S.

The merger of the School of Public Policy and the Department of Public and International Affairs will create the School of Policy, Government and International Affairs—SPGIA. When classes begin in September, the new school will boast 2,100 students: 700 undergraduates, 1,200 master’s candidates and 200 PhD students.
Some 80 full-time faculty members will teach 15
degree programs at George Mason’s Fairfax and
Arlington Campuses.

The merger now moves to Richmond where it will be evaluated by the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia. A final decision is anticipated by the end of June.
