Angner Gives Inaugural “60 Seconds” Interview to Palgrave Macmillan

Palgrave Macmillan is a worldwide educational media company based in New York and London, the publisher of a wide range of materials in the spheres of humanities, social sciences, and business. The company’s website features its scope of titles, along with a variety of ways in which readers may learn more about their authors. One of its newer methods presents a particular author in a “60 Second” interview.

For its inaugural “60 Seconds” feature, Palgrave selected Erik Angner, associate professor of philosophy, economics, and public policy at Mason. Angner’s textbook, A Course in Behavioral Economics (Palgrave Macmillan 2012), has been listed as a #1 bestseller on Amazon in the United Kingdom on a number of occasions, not merely in the textbook category, but in all of the microeconomics subject area. The book has been adopted across the United States and is used in Italy, Denmark, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Ireland, Malta, Austria, Finland, and elsewhere. Its Chinese translation is scheduled to be released soon.

In the interview, “60 Seconds with Erik Angner,” Angner discusses ways in which behavioral economics covers new ground with respect to understanding economic phenomena. Further, he describes how his process for “battle testing” the substance of the material in class contributes to its accessibility for students.

“Teaching the text multiple times before it published allowed me to anticipate readers’ questions and other reactions and to calibrate the presentation accordingly,” he explains. “The text is far better as a result of this battle-testing.”
